From the Maribyrnong River in Melbourne to the streets of Malate, Manila – this is the story of how a not-for-profit organization supporting street children helped lay the foundations of TGT Global, and how that same journey has brought us full circle in giving back.
TGT’s connection to Bahay Tuluyan is a personal one through Cathrine Scerri, Director at Bahay Tuluyan, who is a long-time friend of Erin Bell, Peter Bell, and Peter Hammon. During their first trip to the Philippines in 2010, it was Catherine who introduced them to the local community, culture, and everyday life in the country, including Bonifacio Global City (BGC), which later became TGT’s home.
“Catherine was our very first tour guide. She introduced us to the city, its people, culture, and cuisine. From that first visit in 2010, we already felt that this could be home, and that connection later shaped the decision to establish TGT in the Philippines,” Peter Bell shared.
Fast forward to 2026, and through TGT’s established CSR program, we began exploring options for repurposing technology that was in the process of being upgraded. While the computers were no longer fit for purpose for our clients, we knew they had many more years of service left in them if placed in the right home.
“While reviewing the equipment, we realized they were still fully functional and could continue to serve a purpose, it was clear they could be of use to the community, helping children and youth access technology more easily,” said Charmine Joy Roazol, Compliance Officer at TGT.
The team at TGT then reached out to Catherine and Bahay Tuluyan to see if they might be able to use the technology to continue their amazing work with the support and education of vulnerable children living on the streets of Manila.
This approach turned otherwise idle resources into valuable tools that Bahay Tuluyan could use to give access to technology, which can open doors to learning, skill development, and new opportunities.
Our CSR team arranged for the equipment to be transported to Bahay Tuluyan and then had the joy of going onsite to set up the PCs, meeting many wonderful children in the process. These computers now allow Bahay Tuluyan to expand access to technology for even more children in their programs.
Madel Hollon, a Program Staff member who grew up within the organization, shared how the support helps the community:
“It is really helpful, especially for the children in our community and shelter. Youth who need to do research can now access computers easily. We were already thinking of opening access to children in our community, the shelter, and the youth who are part of Bahay Tuluyan, and this makes it much easier.”
Extending the life of technology for community use
This project highlights a practical way of repurposing technology to benefit the community. Functional IT equipment that might otherwise have gone unused was redirected to support learning and daily operations.
It is a reminder that everyday resources, when managed with care, can become instruments that help communities thrive.
